They should of come with the 3.0l V6 in the US. I remember in the 80s my dad bought a 200SX with the VG30E because it weighed the same, had quite a bit more torque but similar hp, had a far better reputation for reliability, and better shifter feel. Things like that is what killed Alfa in the US then. They were also charging a premium for cars that didn't feel premium and just had a badge, a badge that had gained a poor reputation unfortunately. Most of the Alfa loving you see now was the polar opposite back then they had the reputation and as much love as Hyundai did up to a few years ago except with the malus of costing almost what BMWs did. They relied on badge history and most people who bought them were older men who owned one int he past.

Now it has become fueled by a lot of nostalgia and people like them once more. If they just had that 3.0l engine they probably could of justified what they charged for it and it would of cost them next to nothing and could of rewarded them with saving the brand.

It's the same head design.

Yeah, I think a 3.0l (or a 3.5l as well) would have helped them massively when competing with the likes of BMW. Alfa never actually released a 3.0l GTV6 officially, the only factory ones were South African homologation specials with triple Webers rather than injection.

I think it's just a matter of available capital at the time. Being strapped for cash doesn't lend itself to diversifying your model range.

As far as I know, all the 12v engines used hemi combustion chambers so yeah :) the later 24v ones were pent-roof jobbies :)
